After being eliminated in the first round, the Lakers are naturally expected to make moves over the summer. And for this analyst, there’s no doubt that a big player will leave the franchise after questionable performances.
This is the Lakers’ first summer with Luka Doncic on the roster, so let’s just say the franchise will be watching closely with the moves to come. The Mavericks didn’t do a great job of surrounding the star, who nevertheless managed to send Dallas to the Grand Finals. Nico Harrison finally thanked him with a trade to the City of Angels.
Rob Pelinka is likely to do things differently, like the trade (before it was cancelled) of Mark Williams, personally recommended by Doncic according to sources across the Atlantic. Proof that the GM should try to please the Slovenian, and rightly so. Remember that Luka will have to make a decision on his contract this summer.
Major trade inevitable for the Lakers?
So, apart from LeBron James, is there really an untouchable player in Los Angeles today? Probably not. Pelinka could take the opportunity to make a major trade, and it’s Austin Reaves who keeps coming up in conversation. Disappointing against the Timberwolves in the playoffs, the fullback is headed straight for a trade for some.
Losing him wouldn’t be a huge loss for the Angelinos, at least depending on the consideration. In any case, Bill Simmons is quite critical of him and thinks that the trade is happening for the player. And that’s not a debate in his view, it just remains to be seen when the Lakers will turn the page. Not sure everyone agrees with him on that one.
Bill Simmons on Austin Reaves : “When Reaves gets traded this summer — and he WILL get traded – the stuff they [Lakers] get back for him is gonna make it seem worse that they [Mavericks] didn’t get him in the trade.”
The Angelinos are unlikely to get much back from Reaves, who is far from popular given his recent performances. For some fans, it’s time to move on, while others feel he still has a chance in the City of Angels. Everyone has their own opinion on the matter, but let’s not forget that he can extend his contract this summer, or leave potentially free in 2026. A trade is certainly not out of the question.
