While many await the new salvo of playoff games, others will be keeping a close eye on an important NBA event: the lottery. It takes place on Monday night, and the Spurs are hoping to pull off another heist.
This Monday night in the NBA, we have a fine program with the Celtics vs. the Knicks and the Wolves vs. the Warriors. Two series that could take quite a turn depending on the winner, and potentially offer first match points to reach the conference finals. And then there are the other franchises who’ll be in front of their televisions.
Because the lottery is here, and it’s going to matter. We don’t know if Cooper Flagg can reach superstar status or rival Victor Wembanyama one day, but many experts are eager to see him play in the NBA. And barring any cataclysms, we’ll know his first team in the league very soon.
Spurs aim to hit the lottery hard again
Unlike last year with Zaccharie Risacher, Flagg seems destined to finish first, as with Victor Wembanyama. The Jazz have the best chances (14%) with two other franchises, but the Spurs could still pull off a minor feat. At just under 7%, anything is possible for San Antonio.
To get Flagg, there’s no doubt: you’ll need that first pick. A trade is also possible before the draft, but given the Duke product’s heralded talent, it’s unlikely that any organization would give in on this one. The Spurs are still hoping to make a big splash, and the franchise’s fans are out in force on social networks. But it’s far from a done deal.

A top-5 pick would already be a big win for the Spurs, especially as the franchise only started tanking in the latter part of the season. With Wembanyama or Stephon Castle, it would be a great coup to add Flagg to this young core. We’ll have the answer this Monday evening.
