While the NBA is sometimes accused of rigging certain results, it’s not going to get any better after this Monday night’s lottery. Criticism is flying in the wake of Dallas’ victory, a few months after sending Luka Doncic to Los Angeles.
This Monday May 12 in the NBA will leave its mark, and too bad for Adam Silver, who no doubt would have liked to avoid controversy and criticism. The Mavericks have just won the first pick in the draft with Cooper Flagg in their sights, a few months after the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers. Yet they only had a 1.8% chance.
In 2019, the Pelicans also had the first pick, a few months after sending Anthony Davis to the Lakers. So did the commissioner hand out a few gifts for rekindling the league’s interest? Many think not, that it’s impossible. But on social networks, we can tell you that the reactions are numerous.
The NBA rigged? Mavs victory causes scandal
@AlexHoops_ : “I don’t think the NBA is actually rigged, but I also don’t blame you one bit if you do at this point”
That’s how to sum up the mentality of a lot of people this Tuesday. It’s always hard to tip to the other side, to believe that the NBA did indeed rig its lottery to help and thank the Mavericks, but… is it really that crazy when you see all the recent events?
@krazyboyz100 : “Nah the games and stuff aren’t I’ll agree but the lottery absolutely is I mean look what we just saw”
@RyB_311 : “Lmao if you don’t think this shit was rigged and they weren’t promised Flagg for trading Luka to LA I actually don’t know what to tell you”
This opinion is massively shared today on Twitter, and no one will change their mind on the subject. Not sure the NBA really won on this one.
@LakersNation : “So the Pelicans trade AD to the Lakers and then get the No. 1 pick. Now, the Mavericks trade Luka to the Lakers… and then get the No. 1 pick.”
@Wtumn_ : “Bucks getting 1st pick next year”
In reality, it’s impossible to say whether the NBA is really rigged. It’s still hard to believe that such things happen behind the scenes, but it’s not impossible either. In any case, the timing of the Mavericks’ victory remains very curious.
