After being his teammate last summer in the ranks of Team USA, Stephen Curry is in danger of being knocked out of the playoffs by Anthony Edwards. And if Edwards is to be believed, the Warriors’ point guard will have a hand in this hypothetical scenario.
Deprived of their best player since the first game of this series, the Warriors’ objective seemed clear: to survive until his return. In the end, however, this may never happen. Stephen Curry is not expected to return to action until Game 6 against the Timberwolves, with a left hamstring injury. That is, if the game goes ahead at all.
Indeed, it now seems highly likely that the confrontation between the two teams will come to an end in Game 5. After all, Minnesota moved one step closer to qualification with a 117-110 victory over Golden State on Monday. The victory was largely due to Anthony Edwards, who scored 30 points and was very efficient from 3-point range (6/11). A potential source of regret for one of its victims.
Anthony Edwards thanks Steph Curry for his brilliant 3-point shooting
Having struggled with his outside shooting since the start of the playoffs, Edwards has nonetheless maintained his confidence and has been rewarded in recent hours. Speaking to ESPN, he paid tribute to… to Steph Curry:
Anthony Edwards: My approach to my 3-point shooting is the same every night: let it fly.
You know, I worked all summer with Steph, so I owe him a big dedication and a lot of the credit. He influenced me to become a great shooter so as soon as I got back to the States, I worked on that and got better. So yeah, that’s why now I don’t hesitate to take my chances behind the arc.
As a reminder, Ant and Steph were part of the XXL roster on which Team USA relied during the Paris Olympic Games. The young winger was thus able to observe his prestigious elder closely and draw inspiration from him in many respects in order to continue his progression. This would include 3-point shooting, an area in which he had never really shone since his arrival in the NBA.
This influence was also felt during the regular season. Edwards shot 10.3 3-pointers per game, the highest average of his career. His percentages in this exercise also improved significantly (39.5%), which explains why he remains so confident in his shooting in the playoffs. Indirectly and in spite of himself, Curry may well have led his franchise to its demise.
