As the days go by, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future seems to be slipping away from Milwaukee. Several franchises are on the lookout, including the Spurs and Lakers, but it’s a third contender who could win the day. In sporting terms, the destination is an interesting one.
It’s shaping up to be a dramatic summer in the NBA, and Giannis Antetokounmpo could be the key player. With the Bucks having just suffered another early elimination from the playoffs, Damian Lillard out with a long-term injury and his team lacking any credible prospects for the future, the two-time MVP could ask to leave.
It has to be said that, at the age of 30, he’s unlikely to want to embark on a dubious reconstruction and would prefer to join an ambitious project for the final years of his athletic prime. Good news for him, however, as he is already the target of much interest, particularly from San Antonio. On paper, the Spurs have some formidable assets to convince Milwaukee.
Are the Knicks keen on Giannis Antetokounmpo?
But beware of overlooking the Lakers, who, even when it seems impossible, always manage to make some noise in the market. Journalist for SNY, the always well-informed Ian Begley gave the name of a third franchise on the lookout for Giannis. And in sporting terms, it’s perhaps the most interesting of all.
After bringing in Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges last summer, after extending OG Anunoby, the Knicks don’t seem to be in a position to recruit Giannis Antetokounmpo. But a source close to the matter tells me that it would be foolish to rule out the Knicks as a possible destination for Giannis. If the season hadn’t ended the right way, New York would have had the greatest interest in the Greek Freak.
Dominant against the Celtics and on the verge of reaching the conference finals, the Knicks would be a team to watch in the Giannis Antetokounmpo dossier. While the squad is coherent and dense, management could still look for improvements, and even more so if they’re not going to win the title. The idea seems to appeal to fans:
@A1ROC : They can trade at least 4 good players from the squad, like Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson.
@DKNetwork : Timothée Chalamet is already too powerful, we can’t give him Giannis Antetokounmpo at the Knicks.
@TheLakersForum : He once said New York was a possible destination 👀
