To everyone’s surprise, the Pacers reached the conference finals again after beating the Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs. LeBron James took the opportunity to settle the record straight about Tyrese Haliburton after Game 5.
Last year, no one expected to see them at this stage of the competition. And yet, it was the Pacers who faced the eventual champion Celtics in the conference finals after eliminating the Bucks and Knicks in the previous rounds. Having been swept by Jayson Tatum and his teammates, few expected them to repeat such a feat in 2024-25. But they were right on all counts…
Because it’s official now, Indiana is back in the conference finals after defeating the Cavaliers in the second round. And all without a hitch, please, since Tyrese Haliburton and his teammates won the series in just five games, completely rolling over the best team in the East during the regular season. The latter was certainly weighed down by injuries, but it’s still impressive.
If anyone should be savoring this achievement, it’s Haliburton himself. This is now the second straight season the point guard has led his team to a top-four rank in the league, despite competition and a roster theoretically weaker than that of the Celtics or the Knicks. Since this revelation, the former Kings player has continued to deliver big performances and we saw him in total control against Cleveland, not even needing to force his game to crush his opponents. LeBron James did not fail to pay tribute to him while tackling the critics of “Hali” in the process:

Coming from the King, especially after the young All-Star just eliminated his former team, that’s a huge compliment.
However, the work isn’t over yet for Haliburton and his clique. The conference cinals are expected to take place against the Knicks in a matchup reminiscent of the 90s. Reggie Miller and Spike Lee will be able to reignite their rivalry… But most importantly, the Pacers have the opportunity to return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2000. With Boston on the brink of elimination, anything is now possible in the East.
