Injured at the end of the playoffs, LeBron James is currently taking it easy in order to return in the best possible conditions. Retirement is not an option according to this insider, who provided some important news.

The Lakers will be looking for quite a few reinforcements this summer to surround Luka Doncic, and it will certainly start with the recruitment of a pivot. Rob Pelinka will have his work cut out for him in the coming months, but there are doubts about LeBron James, who turns 41 at the end of the year. After all, he may still decide to retire before September.

It’s unlikely, but the King still hasn’t decided to dispel any doubts at the moment. However, according to a number of insiders, his future is quite clear: he will return to the Lakers for another season, and could announce his retirement in the summer of 2026 just before that, in order to have a nice farewell tour around the league.

What does the future hold for LeBron James?

That, or James could still force a year behind to play with his other son, Bryce James. The latter is potentially expected in the league in 2027, but again, it’s unclear how things will develop. The good news is that his recent injury shouldn’t prevent him from returning to normal activity.

Remember that James was injured in Game 5 against the Timberwolves, so he wouldn’t have been able to continue playing even if the Lakers had won. Jovan Buha gave an update on the King’s health, and according to him, he will recover in the coming weeks. We might have had our doubts for a 40-year-old player after all.

Jovan Buha on LeBron’s injury : “He’ll still be working out and staying in shape while he is resting the knee. Then once it’s cleared, he will ramp up and get back to being LeBron. I don’t think this is something that is going to linger into training camp, into the preseason, into next season. I think it is something that he will have a full offseason to recover from and be fine going into next year.”

Rather reassuring for LeBron’s health, he should be physically ready for September and the Lakers’ training camp, at least if he’s still around. It should be noted, however, that by declining his player option, LeBron will be free to sign wherever he likes next.
