Former Lakers’ president of basketball operations, Magic Johnson no longer holds any position within the franchise. But that didn’t stop him from publicly hitting on a huge star on the way out this summer.
Sometimes overused, the term “loyalty” nevertheless suits him perfectly. Having worn the Lakers’ colors for thirteen seasons on the NBA, Magic Johnson remains intimately linked to them to this day. Having served as a player, coach and executive, he continues to keep abreast of the franchise’s latest developments and to wish it every success as a “simple” fan.
It’s fair to say that he’s been somewhat disillusioned in recent weeks, as JJ Redick and his troops lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Timberwolves. Plagued in particular by a porous defense, the latter know that the Angelino squad will undoubtedly undergo multiple alterations in the off-season. Their glorious predecessor also seems to be preparing for this… and even playing the role of scout.
The star Magic Johnson dreams of seeing play for the Lakers
As a close observer of the NBA as a whole, Magic Johnson couldn’t escape the rumors of a departure involving… Kevin Durant. After all, these have been in the news for weeks. This Wednesday, however, the Slim Reaper made the news by winning the Magic Johnson Award, which honors players who excel on and off the court, and was praised by the illustrious point guard on X :
Magic Johnson: Congratulations to the 2-time Magic Johnson Award winner Kevin Durant. I’m so excited Kevin Durant won this award because is he always so gracious to the media and fans, I love his game, who he is as a man, and all the great community work that he’s doing in the DMV area with the youth.
Kevin is an outstanding entrepreneur and a big Commanders fans. I wish he was a Laker! lol 😂
