Victim of a ruptured Achilles tendon during Game 4 between the Celtics and Knicks, Jayson Tatum’s case was quickly compared to that of Kevin Durant. The Slim Reaper, meanwhile, took exception to a daring analysis of the Boston star’s absence.

Eager to follow in his idol’s footsteps, however, he would have done well without the similarity. Like Kobe Bryant on April 12, 2013, Jayson Tatum left the floor with 3:08 minutes left in the 4th quarter on Monday during Game 4 between Celtics and Knicks. Like Kobe, he was later diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles tendon. A serious injury, but one from which other stars have already recovered.

Also the victim of a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2019, Kevin Durant could have a role to play in Tatum’s rehabilitation. At least, that’s what Charles Barkley was quick to hope on TNT. The Slim Reaper, however, came across another viral rant delivered about his Boston counterpart. Via his X account, former NFL star and current analyst Emmanuel Acho declared:

Emmanuel Acho: The Celtics are better equipped to beat the Knicks without Jayson Tatum than they were with him. Give me two minutes to show you something you may have missed, and I’ll convince you of that.

A message accompanied by a video of the famous two-minute tirade, made on the set of The Facility.

In the latter, Acho asserts that Jaylen Brown, promoted to the C’s #1 option in Tatum’s absence, embodies a leader more suited to this series. Less talented, he would rely on a mentality of steel that he would transmit to his teammates. And therein lies the key to this confrontation, according to the former American footballer, who clearly didn’t convince Durant:

Kevin Durant: Hot take artists have ruined the sport. Football guys, no disrespect but y’all boys need to stay in your lanes, you don’t know what it’s like it between these lines man give it a break. Dudes who quit football early to pursue media talking mental toughness, cut it out.

Angered, KD had the merit of being joined in his cause by his old rival Kendrick Perkins. Acho, on the other hand, firmly maintained his position:

Emmanuel Acho: It’s not a hot take to suggest that JB plays tougher basketball than JT. And you’re right, I don’t know what it’s like to be in your business, just like you don’t know what it’s like to defend on Adrian Peterson. Still, that doesn’t stop you from talking tough.
