Rather disappointing in the series against the Timberwolves, Jimmy Butler still has two seasons left to win a title with the Warriors. In his latest press conference, he was very honest about his future and how he sees his team evolving.

Would the series between the Warriors and Timberwolves have been different if Stephen Curry hadn’t been injured in the first meeting? Golden State fans are sure of it, even if there’s no evidence that the final result would have changed with the Chief. For, despite his absence, his lieutenants have not necessarily been able to raise their game.

Recruited to be a viable second option in the heat of the moment, Jimmy Butler ended up being rather disappointing when the Warriors needed his talent the most. On paper, his average of 20.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists is satisfactory, but it doesn’t translate into a decisive impact on the package.

Jimmy Butler sees himself at the Warriors for the long term

In the fifth and final game, for example, he took just 11 shots, which some observers see as a glaring lack of aggression. Despite the disappointment and doubts, Jimmy Butler still has two seasons left on his contract, a rather large window of opportunity to dream of the title. He was asked about this at his last press conference:

I still have two years left on my contract, but if we win a title between now and then, our shooting window could be even longer than that. I think we’ve still got a lot of great basketball ahead of us. I don’t think the question of age is so important any more with the way everyone takes care of their bodies. If everyone does things right, the potential is there.

My priority this summer will be to get to know everyone in the group. If I can show my team-mates that I’m there for them even off the court, we’ll feel the difference on the court. Because there’s more to life than basketball. I have to be able to sense when they’re not feeling well, when their minds are busy. I’m going to spend as much time as possible with the guys.

For Jimmy Butler, it would be a shame to settle for a two-season window with the Warriors, when with the care he takes of his body and Stephen Curry too, they could be dangerous far beyond that. To get results, he wants to get to know his teammates, which is why he plans to spend his summer with them.
