Without a true pivot on their roster, the Lakers clearly have a priority this summer. But should they recruit a free agent or go through a trade? Bleacher Report’s latest suggestion didn’t exactly please everyone on the web.
Outgunned by the Timberwolves in both defense and offense, the Lakers have their work cut out for them this summer. The departure of Anthony Davis has not been remedied, and it’s hard for JJ Redick’s men to win anything without a true pivot. Rob Pelinka is therefore expected to find a solution this summer.
The problem could have been solved with the arrival of Mark Williams, but we recall that it was the Angelinos who cancelled the deal after it had been validated. A mistake for many fans, especially as the pivot finished the season with the Hornets without any major problems in the aftermath. So who should we recruit next on the market?
Who will the Lakers recruit this summer?
The Lakers have two options: go through the free agent market, or arrange a trade to find a solution. The second option is undoubtedly the best to find a real impact player, perhaps Mitchell Robinson from the Knicks. Bleacher Report thinks he’s a good target.
So one of their insiders proposed an exchange to allow Robinson to cross the country and blossom in the City of Angels:
- The Lakers receive: Mitchell Robinson
- Knicks receive: Jarred Vanderbilt, second-round pick in 2025, first-round trade rights in 2026 (swap)
An interesting and perhaps too high consideration for the Lakers, at least judging by some of the reactions.
@Lebronin1 : “Lakers that’s to much capital”
@PatrickWCutler : “Why in the world would the Knicks do this???”
@TallmanCapital : “Vando is worth more than Robinson, what is this????”
Knicks fans are against it, while Lakers fans are too, but for different reasons. Whatever happens, Pelinka will have to find what he’s looking for on the open market, given his team’s needs. But the other New York franchise may be the one to negotiate with. After all, the Nets have Nic Claxton on their side.
