The WNBA opened an investigation after the Fever-Sky match following comments about Angel Reese. Caitlin Clark has shown her support, although the story remains very unclear at present. The league is to blame.
The Sky vs. Fever game was the talk of the WNBA this weekend. There was an altercation between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese following a foul that appeared to be normal in view of the slow-motion replays. The latter showed that Reese had in fact committed a first foul by pushing his opponent to get the rebound.
But the game took a different turn a little later, when the WNBA issued a stunning statement. The league condemned racism, hatred and discrimination and explained that it had opened an investigation after certain stories during the game. We can only welcome this move to punish those involved.
Total incomprehension in the WNBA
There’s one major problem with this story, however: nobody knows why the WNBA is doing this exactly. The NBA is quick to communicate on the subject on its side, explaining that a fan did this or that, but the WNBA has yet to reveal anything. The Sky and Fever players, who were at home, have heard nothing from their side.
RACISM? The WNBA is investigating Indiana fans cheering after Angel Reese missed her free throw as an act of ‘racism’. Suddenly it is a hate crime for cheering when a flopper gets poetic justice? pic.twitter.com/KwA4qxs3QZ

As we can see from this video, some fans think the WNBA is opening an investigation after the taunts against Reese, particularly during his missed throws. Needless to say, this would be an absolute disgrace, especially when during the same weekend, Nikola Jokic was booed in OKC 45 minutes before the start of the game. Whistles and taunts are part of sport.
So why is the WNBA doing this? We’re hoping for a quick clarification, even if Clark has shown his support.
Clark : “There’s no place for that in our game, there’s no place for that in society. Certainly, we want every person who comes into our arena — whether player or fan — to have a great experience. I appreciate the league doing that [investigation]. I appreciate that the Fever organization has been at the forefront of that.”
For the time being, everyone is waiting to find out why the WNBA has launched an investigation.
