Nico Harrison is making a mess of things in Dallas, at least that’s what many fans think. There’s plenty of evidence to back this up, and we’re not even talking about the Luka Doncic trade. Nor even that of Quentin Grimes.

Best known in the sports world for screwing up Stephen Curry’s move to Nike, Nico Harrison is not helping his reputation with the Mavericks. You always get the impression of seeing someone who doesn’t know much and improvises most of the time. Needless to say, the Luka Doncic trade hasn’t helped matters.

We could even mention Quentin Grimes, traded to Philly for crumbs. From now on? The fullback has made one boxed deal after another with the Sixers, confirming that Harrison actually screwed up two trades at the last deadline. But it’s not just with players that the GM messes things up, as evidenced by the medical staff.

Nico Harrison humiliated again

With injuries to Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively, Daniel Gafford and Anthony Davis, the Mavs have experienced a number of problems. Coincidence? Not really. Harrison fired a good part of the medical staff when he arrived, explaining that he wanted better people. The result? He decided to fire them too at the end of the season because of all the injuries.

Except that the Mavericks originally had a highly respected staff, thanks in no small part to Casey Smith. Dirk Nowitzki had nothing but good things to say about him, and the man had a certain influence behind the scenes, acquired through his work. Harrison didn’t like it and fired him because he wanted to be the only one who could make decisions, unchallenged. He did so under horrible bonus conditions, according to ESPN.

And if we’re talking about Smith, it’s because he quickly bounced back elsewhere, with the Knicks to be precise. And guess who just won the title of best medical team in the NBA?

@TheSteinLine : “The Knicks’ medical team has been named NBA Athletic Training Staff of the Year. It’s Year 1 for Casey Smith in New York after the Knicks hired him away from Dallas as vice president of sports medicine entering the season.”

Note that Marc Stein implied that the Knicks had swiped Smith from the Mavericks, which is totally untrue. It was Nico Harrison who asked him to leave, for a total fiasco on arrival. No one is surprised at this stage.
