Luka Doncic isn’t exactly a household name at the moment, especially with the Lakers’ elimination in the first round of the playoffs. So for this former player, it’s easy to find someone better than him in the league.

Currently at home, Luka Doncic is quietly enjoying his summer, and could be back in Slovenia in a few months’ time for another round of games. The player will then head to Los Angeles in September with the firm intention of winning his first career title, and with the Lakers of course. But nothing has been decided yet.

Many have their doubts about the Angelinos, or even Doncic. We know that Nico Harrison and the Mavericks are not fans of the player, notably because of his efforts on defense or his behavior with referees. So for some of his detractors, the Lakers’ elimination in the first round didn’t come as a total surprise.

A star preferred to Luka Doncic

For more and more people, there are better players in the league than Doncic, despite his obvious talent. A year ago, let’s not forget that the Slovenian took the Mavericks to the Grand Finals against the Celtics. Nevertheless, and for DeMarcus Cousins, a Jalen Brunson is more useful today.

Asked about Brunson or Doncic by Lou Williams, Cousins didn’t really hesitate when answering on RunItBack:

DeMarcus Cousins : “I’ll take Jalen Brunson over Luka Doncic, because he plays. It’s a no-brainer. One guy is playing and the other is at home. I take the guy who’s playing, the guy at home can’t help me. The best talent is still Doncic, but today I’ll take Brunson.”

Brunson was team-mates with Doncic, before the Mavericks decided to give up on the player and not trust him. So much the worse for them, and so much the better for New York, who seized the opportunity to acquire a talented point guard who is now helping the franchise reach the Eastern Conference Finals.

But is he at Doncic’s level? Many fans will obviously disagree, as the Slovenian is undoubtedly a level above when he’s playing at his best. We hope for his sake that he’ll have the opportunity to remind some people of that next season.
