LeBron James and Michael Jordan may have a great deal of respect for each other, but they appear to be big rivals in the GOAT debate. So much so, in fact, that MJ’s agent, David Falk, has not been kind to the King on the subject.
Their rare joint appearance at the 2022 All-Star Game removed any doubt on this point. No, Michael Jordan and LeBron James don’t hate each other. In fact, this was hardly a surprise when it came to the Lakers winger, who was brought up on the achievements of his illustrious predecessor and has always looked up to him as a role model. As it turns out, his respect for him is mutual.
And yet, the two men have been battling it out from a distance for many years now. Each claims the honorary title of NBA GOAT and believes he has amply earned it. Fans, on the other hand, are still unable to agree on which of the two men they want to be the GOAT of the NBA. This can lead to some extremely scathing outbursts in the media.
Michael Jordan’s agent’s punchline on LeBron James
The debate over who is the best player in the history of the league leaves no one indifferent. Not even those close to the two main protagonists. David Falk, who represented Jordan for the entirety of his NBA career, gave a very clear opinion on the subject at the recent 4se conference. Rob Schaefer of Sports Business Journal reports:
Unsurprisingly, Falk was quick to point the finger at Jordan when asked about his GOAT. Asked about the #2 in his ranking, he hesitated between Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant. Is LeBron in his Top 10? “Probably. I really like LeBron, but I think if Jordan had picked the team he wanted to be on as well as two other superstars, he would have won 15 titles.”
As you can imagine, Falk accuses LeBron of repeatedly changing teams and regularly getting other big-name players to join him. It’s a way of discrediting LeBron’s record in comparison with Jordan’s. The famous agent even went so far as to claim that, with such methods, his illustrious client would now have 15 championship rings.
A statement that may seem crude to some, but is hardly surprising given its author. Indeed, Falk is a repeat offender. A few years ago, he already castigated the image of the shadowy GM that clung to the King’s skin, and didn’t consider him worthy of the GOAT conversation. It seems that time has not changed his opinion.
