Relatively active on social networks and in the media since the end of his season, LeBron James nevertheless failed to react to the results of the MVP voting. This, despite the fact that they enabled him to achieve an unprecedented feat.

The series between the Nuggets and the Thunder was a harbinger of things to come. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who defeated Nikola Jokic a few days ago, has done double duty in recent hours. His coronation as MVP was made official by the NBA, while his Serbian counterpart had to settle for 2nd place. The rest of the standings also need to be analyzed.

LeBron historically honored in the MVP poll

In addition to the duel between SGA and Jokic, which has thrilled and torn apart the NBA community, other stars received votes in the MVP poll. Giannis Antetokounmpo came third on the list, while Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell rounded out the Top 5. Sixth place went to a regular on the list, namely LeBron James :

No fewer than fourteen voters included LeBron in their selection of five players, giving him a total of 16 points and putting him ahead of Cade Cunningham, Anthony Edwards and Stephen Curry. Anecdotal for some, this relative honor is in fact a new record for the King. A record previously held by none other than… Michael Jordan.

At the end of the 2001-02 season, Jordan, then aged 39, had also inherited votes in the MVP election, finishing in 13th place. At 40 years of age, LBJ outdid his illustrious predecessor and became the oldest player in NBA history to collect points in this poll. Yet another prestigious symbol of his insane longevity.

The King’s fans, as loyal as ever and determined to see him properly recognized, reacted with joy and pride to this achievement on X :

@MalaceWithMurph: LeBron came in 6th in MVP voting at 40 years old…MJ could never

@LakeShowUp: Being 6th in mvp voting going on 41 years of age is beyond crazy

@amiteshprasad99: And you tell me he’s not the greatest of all time
