Having been too quiet during the first match between Minnesota and Oklahoma City, Anthony Edwards stepped up his game in Game 2 despite another defeat. And it was clearly no coincidence, as journalist Marc J. Spears revealed before the match.
The 2025 conference finals must be giving Timberwolves fans nightmares… because they’re exactly like last year’s loss to the Mavericks. Back then, the franchise found no solution against Luka Doncic’s team, losing brutally in five games. And for now, it looks like the series against the Thunder is taking the same disappointing turn…
From Game 1, we noticed a rather glaring difference in skill between the two teams. Better organized on both ends of the court, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his teammates made short work of Minnesota, winning by almost 30 points (114-88). And Game 2 did not allow Chris Finch’s men to tie up the score, as they suffered another defeat (118-103), again at home.
Anthony Edwards’s big homework between Games 1 and 2 against OKC
It’s all the more frustrating because Anthony Edwards showcased a neat performance tonight, after a very average Game 1. Not helped by a non-existing Julius Randle and despite some clumsiness (12/26 shooting including 1/9 from long range), the guard worked hard with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. A much better performance that was not due to chance, as Marc J. Spears had confided before the match:
Anthony Edwards typically has played a little better in his second game than he has in each of their previous two series against the Lakers and Warriors. People close to him say they expect him to do that again tonight. After they lost in Game 1, he and an assistant coach watched game film at a nearby hotel until 3 am. So he’s definitely more mentally prepared for this next game.
In fact, Ant-Man actually put on a much better performance in the second set, finishing without a single loose ball. Impressive against a defense as stifling as OKC’s, but not enough to prevent his team from finding themselves practically with their backs to the wall in these conference finals. Suffice to say, this game won’t silence his many detractors.
