Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic on the same team? It’s entirely possible by the end of their careers. A trade has been floated to send the Serb to Los Angeles right now, but it’s unlikely to go far.
Disappointed by the Nuggets’ elimination, Nikola Jokic knows that change is needed in Denver. The franchise seems to be losing momentum, while the competition is accelerating, like the Thunder, who are simply unstoppable at the moment. So, in Colorado, we’re expecting some changes this summer to get the ball rolling again.
Jokic doesn’t seem to have threatened to jump ship, but he has made it clear to his managers that the Nuggets’ rotation needs to be better to win the championship. However, Denver is also limited by NBA rules, so don’t expect any miracles. Enough to annoy the Joker and threaten his future?
The lunar trade involving Nikola Jokic
For the time being, there’s nothing to suggest that Jokic will leave the Nuggets. He still gives his priority to the franchise, but what if this team fails again over the next two or three years? Will the pivot still want to continue? Not sure. And for some, the Lakers need to take advantage now.
As it happens, the Angelinos are looking for a pivot this summer. We saw that it was a cruel lack during the last playoffs, so Rob Pelinka has his work cut out for him. On Twitter, we began to see a montage evoking the trade of Jokic to the Lakers. But the counterparty in question raises questions.
- Lakers receive : Nikola Jokic
- Nuggets receive: Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, Dorian Finney-Smith, first round 2031 and right to swap the first round of 2028
When you see the trade for Rudy Gobert or Paul George, needless to say, it’s not enough. It will take an astronomical amount to get Jokic, in his prime and in the running every year for the MVP to boot. Seeing him with Doncic wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world obviously for many fans, but the timing isn’t right.
