Nico Harrison made it clear that the Mavericks would be winning a title very soon, and perhaps as early as next season. Alongside Anthony Davis, the franchise had good news for one player.
Despite Kyrie Irving’s long-term injury, expected back on the floor in early 2026 if his rehabilitation goes well according to Shams Charania, the Mavericks remain confident about their title chances. Nico Harrison certainly hasn’t picked up Anthony Davis to squat at the bottom of the Western Conference, although Dallas didn’t make the playoffs this season.
A disappointment for the fans, bitter against a manager who really seems to be making a mess of things. The trade of Quentin Grimes to the Sixers was also shameful, while the dismissal of the medical staff when the GM arrived had an impact on the players. Between Irving, Daniel Gafford, Davis and even Dereck Lively, there were big problems.
A player back in form for the Mavericks
As proof of this, ESPN claims that Harrison has again fired members of the staff, even though he claimed they were the best a few weeks ago. Reality proves him wrong, and Lively’s case confirms it, as he missed several months of competition and didn’t seem himself on his return. But things could change for the better.
Because even if the fans don’t have faith in Harrison, the fact remains that the roster built is interesting for this 2025-26 campaign. A mix of young players and senior players, capable of playing in the championship if injuries don’t ruin everything. In this respect, Lively could reach a new milestone in the coming months.
Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison said Dereck Lively has grown 2 inches during the offseason. Lively now stands 7’3” with a 7’9” wingspan. Dallas’s leading big man now is now ‘incredible at protecting the rim’.
Between Lively and Anthony Davis, already considered one of the best defenders in the NBA, the Mavericks’ interior sector will certainly be a problem for the coming season. This will be important for the franchise, especially as it will have problems on the outside with the absence of Kyrie Irving. But Nico Harrison could well recruit again to compensate.
