We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Mavericks’ moves this summer, especially since the franchise is looking to temporarily replace Kyrie Irving pending his return. And it’s the Spurs who may be paying the price.

Free agency kicks off in just over a month’s time, and we’re obviously expecting plenty of action. Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo are two stars likely to change teams, while the Spurs are listed in many dossiers, as are the Lakers. And not far away, there’s also the Mavericks, who have the first pick in the draft.

According to the latest rumors, Dallas is likely to keep this pick and select Cooper Flagg. The aim is clearly to pick up the young talent from Duke and combine him with Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively in the interior sector. But with Nico Harrison already proving himself capable of anything, watch out for a possible surprise.

Reinforcement in sight for the Mavericks?

This is especially true when you consider that the Texans will be recruiting again this summer, according to several sources. Their objective is simple: to recruit a point guard to make up for the absence of Kyrie Irving. After knee surgery and a lengthy absence, the point guard is not expected to return until early 2026, forcing Dallas to temporarily replace him.

But to avoid a conflict later on, the Mavs would like a player capable of rebounding off the bench, or simply capable of collaborating with Kyrie in the future. According to media reports, they have several targets in their sights, with three names coming up repeatedly, including Chris Paul. The latter may not return to the Spurs.

@Mavs_FFL : “Report: Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holiday, and CP3 are names to watch for the Mavs this off-season.”

Three quality point guards with different profiles, Holiday being more defensive. Ball is returning to a satisfactory level and CP3 will be a free agent, which makes him very interesting for Dallas. And knowing that the Spurs drafted De’Aaron Fox during the season and potentially Dylan Harper at the draft, his role should be put on the back burner.

San Antonio should still try to keep him, given his contribution to the dressing room, but CP3 relies above all on his role on the floor. So the Mavs have a great opportunity for him.
