The coming off-season will be an important one for the Lakers, who need to recruit several players for the new season. The priority? To help Luka Doncic, which is why another member of the squad could leave.
The Lakers will have to recruit at the center position, following a series of setbacks against the Wolves. No word yet on who, or whether Rob Pelinka will settle for just one player, but it’s highly unlikely. The franchise has serious shortcomings in the paint, and unless it recruits a superstar, one person won’t be enough to fill all the gaps.
Some dream of Myles Turner, while Daniel Gafford and Nic Claxton are far more realistic targets for the Angelinos. In any case, we know that Pelinka is preparing to recruit for the month of July, with one desire in mind: to make Luka Doncic happy by making his life on the floor as easy as possible. And that’s going to be complicated.
A departure for the Lakers in sight?
It has to be said that the City of Angels has a lot to offer. There’s a lot of talk about centers, but a good defender on the wing wouldn’t go amiss either. So, according to Anthony Irwing, we can expect quite a few moves this off-season. We could even be heading for our first confirmed departure… in the racket.
The only reliable center in the squad this campaign, Jaxson Hayes is not expected to return, according to the insider. It’s not yet confirmed, but it’s the current trend. He had a salary of just 2.5 million and finds himself a free agent for this summer. In any case, it looks like the Angelinos will need at least two centers.
@AnthonyIrwinLA : “I wrote about the Lakers’ center pursuit. I’m told they’ve been extremely active and are looking to add multiple bigs who compliment one another, with the priority being a lob threat for Luka. Also touched on potential returning options. It doesn’t seem likely Hayes will be back.”
If Hayes doesn’t return, the Lakers will have quite a few problems completing their rotation in the racket. Pelinka has some choices to make, and it’s likely that the franchise won’t be able to find happiness at every position. Frustrating for fans, even if other trades are in the pipeline in the City of Angels.
