Eliminated yet again in the conference finals, the Wolves are likely to be aggressive on the market this summer. Their mission? Recruit a new big player, and a star is already being talked about on their side.
Another season and the same result for the Wolves, eliminated in the Western Conference Finals, this time by the Thunder. Anthony Edwards continues to eliminate stars in the postseason, but is currently struggling to help his team turn the corner. No doubt Minnesota will be recruiting this summer to help him achieve his goal.
We know that the Wolves GM isn’t afraid to do what’s necessary. He was behind the arrival of Rudy Gobert and the departure of Karl-Anthony Towns last season, so we can potentially expect further trades over the summer. Another star on the roster wouldn’t go amiss, for example in place of the sometimes erratic Julius Randle.
Which star for the Wolves?
Is Gobert untouchable? It’s doubtful after a mixed playoff run, but the Frenchman’s contract could greatly complicate a possible trade to another team. Whatever happens, we can expect some movement, with a possible interest in Kevin Durant. Minnesota has a long history of this.
Last February, the Wolves already tried to recruit the Slim Reaper. The deal fell through, partly because KD clearly wanted to finish the campaign in Arizona. But everyone expects him to leave this summer, and the Timberwolves are clearly set to come back for him. The franchise would like another “alpha” in its roster.
Sam Amico : “The Timberwolves need a new “alpha” alongside Anthony Edwards to win the championship, which is why sources have told Hoops Wire that Minnesota is expected to pursue Kevin Durant again in a trade this off-season.”
It’s unclear whether the Wolves will be able to negotiate with the Suns, but it seems logical for a team that has suffered yet another disappointment. It’s also worth remembering that the franchise could lose several players over the summer, including Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. The front office will therefore have its work cut out to maintain a competitive roster.
