Another season and another disappointment for Anthony Edwards, who won’t be reaching the grand final after yet another failure in the conference finals. But don’t expect the Wolves star to give up so easily.
Back in the Western Conference Finals this season, it’s fair to say that the Timberwolves have come a long way. They were in bad shape at mid-season, close to missing out on the playoffs, but finally managed to turn things around thanks to a great Anthony Edwards and a fine campaign from Julius Randle. Unfortunately for them, the outcome remains the same.
After an elimination against the Mavericks in 2024, the Wolves lost to the Thunder in 2025, and even more worryingly, Chris Finch’s men are falling behind if you take a closer look at the competition. Between that and the fact that several key players may be jumping ship, the summer of 2025 will be extremely important for the future of this organization.
Anthony Edwards warns the league after his failure
Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who could soon leave the franchise, come to mind. Some fans are hoping that Randle will be traded in order to recruit a big star to help Edwards turn the corner. According to the latest rumors, Minnesota is likely to reactivate the Kevin Durant track.
As for Ant Man, he has every intention of returning for 2026, this time with the firm intention of competing in the Grand Final for the first time in his career. He warned the competition after his elimination:
Anthony Edwards : “I’m going to work my butt off this summer. Nobody’s going to work harder than me this summer. I’ll tell you that much.”
The star looks forward to a September date with the Wolves, and probably with a few new team-mates, always with the ambition of winning his first title. With or without Rudy Gobert? That’s a question that arises after the Frenchman’s playoffs.
Whatever happens, Edwards acknowledged that the Thunder had been superior in this series. It’s hard to deny the obvious, but the Wolves want to close the gap in the coming months. Once again, the franchise has come a long way, since it was far behind in the standings last January.
Edwards : “We thought it was going downhill. We thought it was over for us at one point. It was looking real bad for us. … [And] we turned it around. We did pretty good this year, man. We just came up short again. Try to do it again next year.”
