Very much on the back foot this season, Bronny James is no doubt hoping for a bigger role with the Lakers next season. One Western executive is quite confident and thinks his team has planned some very big adjustments.

Unsurprisingly, Bronny James has been in the news a lot this season, and not often for the right reasons. He quickly struggled in the NBA, to the point where the Lakers quickly had to accept the idea of LeBron’s son spending the majority of time in the G-League. JJ Redick couldn’t give him many minutes and win NBA games.

Normal for a young player who clearly needs to develop his game. He seemed more at ease a few months later, but there’s still a lot of work for Bronny to do to try and have a real role in the NBA. This summer of 2025 should allow him to continue to turn a corner, and perhaps have a place in the rotation somewhere in 2026.

Where does Bronny James fit in at the Lakers?

At least, that’s what the organization and the player are hoping for in a few months’ time. Is it really credible? Everything will depend on his level of play when the season starts, but Bronny has provided some interesting games in his rookie campaign. Suffice to say, the Angelinos will want to keep him around for the time being, to continue to watch him grow.

But for this Western executive, who spoke anonymously to Athlon Sports, the potential is there and the Lakers have a clear plan.

Western Conference executive on Bronny James : “I don’t think there’s any doubt that’s their plan. I know the guy gets a lot of grief because of who his dad is, but we’ve seen a lot of tape on (Bronny) and the fact is, he was a lot better player in April than he was in October, and definitely in July.”

“He’s 20 years old. He had a whole year where his development was thrown all out of whack. But he can defend the perimeter and he showed he can shoot the 3. If he can show that wasn’t a fluke, he is going to start getting 10, 15 minutes a night because the team is going to feel like they can trust him. I think he is going to do all that. He is going to be a regular for them next year.”

A lot of confidence for Bronny and that’s understandable, as he’s progressed over the months in the NBA, not least thanks to his G-League experience. It would be the perfect scenario for LeBron’s son, even if he still has a lot of work to do to get there.
