The Wolves aren’t necessarily far from having a real shot at the title, but the franchise has yet to turn a corner. So for this veteran of the league, a trade is necessary. Could Rudy Gobert pay the price?

Once again in the conference finals, the Wolves are still unable to win this championship at the moment. Anthony Edwards is obviously doing a lot of good, but Minnesota just can’t seem to get over the hump just yet. After falling to the Mavericks in 2024, it was the Thunder who dominated this showdown in 2025.

So it’s starting to dawn on this team that something has to change. Chris Finch’s men are already behind the Thunder when you look at this conference final, and that hasn’t escaped the front office. We can expect a few moves over the summer, especially as there will potentially be some departures.

What kind of summer for the Wolves?

Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, two important players off the bench, could jump ship, forcing the Wolves to find alternatives. We also know that the GM of this organization isn’t afraid to do what’s necessary in terms of trade, so perhaps he’ll make yet another high-profile swap. And what if Rudy Gobert is involved?

For some fans, the Frenchman has to go after a disappointing series against Oklahoma City. He’s struggling to take the next step, and it’s clear that Edwards needs another star alongside him to try and win the championship. In a recent broadcast, former Austin Rivers also thinks Minnesota will have to be aggressive.

Austin Rivers : “You’ve gone to the Conference Finals two years in a row. Clearly, you have some good intel and a good team. You’re just a piece or two away. There needs to be another dominant ball-handler… At this point, they need to get a guard who can take the ball out of Ant’s hands, and say ‘Slow down,’ and have that respect to create and dribble other than him. He needs one other guy.”

That other guy could be Kevin Durant, mentioned again by the Wolves recently. The latter already had an interest in KD at the deadline, so a return of these rumors this summer wouldn’t be surprising. Whatever happens, the Wolves have to try something after this latest setback.
