NBA – « He is a better prospect than Victor Wembanyama »

Sparkling since his first NBA game, Victor Wembanyama is already considered by many to be a real star in the league. But for others, there are already better players than him, including in the next draft.

Absent since February, Victor Wembanyama should be back in September with the Spurs training camp, and before the official NBA return in October. At least, that’s the Texans’ current expectation, with Shams Charania making the announcement this week. A real relief for many fans.

The best is yet to come for the Frenchman, determined to carry the Spurs into the playoffs and why not win the DPOY, which he should already have won in this 2024-25 campaign. Fans are obviously looking forward to his return, yet there are still a few detractors about Wemby. For some, the next draft’s crop is more spectacular.

Wembanyama soon outgrown?

A name that appeals to many at the next draft? Cooper Flagg, of course, who should be selected first overall by the Mavericks. You might think it’s a foregone conclusion, but knowing that Nico Harrison is this franchise’s GM, you’d be cautious until June 25. And a lot of fans can’t wait.

Because after turning heads with Duke, Flagg is coming to the NBA and probably Dallas, where he’ll have hopes of playing for the title in his first campaign. And some fans see a great future for him, to the point where he’s already above Victor Wembanyama for a few people.

That’s how to make yourself hated by a good part of the web and Spurs fans, especially when you know how much Wemby is appreciated. After all, he’s quickly established himself as the league’s best defender and continues to improve offensively. And considering his first two campaigns, Flagg will have to perform miracles to justify such a message.
