It’s been one day after another for the Liberty. The defending champions have honored their position so far at the start of the WNBA season, with seven wins from as many games played. The latest of these, a comfortable 100-52 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, saw Marine Johannès make her mark off the bench with highlights such as..:

Sabrina Ionescu salutes the impact of Marine Johannès

Used for just under 13 minutes in this game, Johannès nevertheless had time to show off her offensive range. Not only with her secret 3-point shots (2/3 from distance, 8 points), but also with spectacular assists like the one above. The latter was celebrated on the spot by team-mate Sabrina Ionescu, who later praised her performance in a press conference:

Sabrina Ionescu: I’d just like to give credit where it’s due and take my hat off to our bench, which had a very positive impact. Whether it’s Izzy (Isabelle Harrison), Jaylin (Sherrod), KB (Kennedy Burke) or Marine, I think they’ve all understood that no matter how much playing time they get off the bench, if they have a positive impact, they’ll continue to help us win games.

I think this game shows just how much everyone in the team is committed to the project and connected. We’re all happy with each other’s success, and that’s what makes me most proud.

New York coach Sandy Brondello was equally pleased to see her substitutes, including MJ, shine so brightly:

Sandy Brondello: I thought Izzy made a big impact when she came on. Jaylin was fantastic in putting pressure on the ball carrier. Rebekah Gardner continues to improve too… It was also good to see Marine out on the pitch. We know we can give her the ball and trust her because she’s not just a scorer, she’s also very good at facilitating our play.
