Movements are expected from the Spurs in the coming weeks, especially with several picks at draft time. In fact, the franchise is said to be mulling over the possibility of teaming up another big man with Victor Wembanyama.

In 2026, we already know that the Spurs will be doing everything in their power to reach the playoffs. It’s the natural next step for the franchise, especially after what is shaping up to be a very interesting summer for them. Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo are mentioned at home, while the front office is expected to take Dylan Harper with the second pick at draft time.

A logical choice given the player’s talent, but there are questions about his fit in Texas. Harper looks a lot like De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, so many wonder if a trade isn’t in the works. San Antonio are keen to go all the way, however, and could even spring a surprise with their other pick.

Because yes, the Spurs have two picks (2nd and 14th), allowing the franchise to bolster this roster with young talent. Some think the trade is likely, but journalist Krysten Peek has another version of her own. San Antonio could use this pick to choose another pivot, although it won’t be easy.

Their target? Khaman Maluach, a pivot who stands at 2m18. He’s not as tall as Victor Wembanyama, but he’s the perfect way to form a very interesting pair in the paint, ready to dissuade absolutely anyone from landing in the paint. Here’s what Peek has to say about that interest.

Krysten Peek : “Another buzzy name tied to the Spurs is Maluach, a 7-foot-2 center out of Duke. The Spurs could essentially be building twin towers with Wembanyama and Maluach and there is an appeal to drafting another young big that can learn and grow alongside Wembanyama. It would be very unlikely that the Spurs would shock everyone and take Maluach with the No. 2 pick but they could be looking to trade down or package the No. 14 pick for a shot at the talented center.”

Maluach is expected to be fairly high in the draft. Not enough to be chosen with the second pick, but enough to escape the Texans with the 14th. He’s considered in the top 10 of some mock drafts, which means the Spurs may have to make an effort.
