After a year spent alongside Victor Wembanyama in the Spurs’ ranks, Chris Paul could pack his bags this summer and join a new franchise as a free agent. In the meantime, he has recently given his honest opinion on the French phenomenon.
The subject of numerous off-season rumours, the Spurs are first and foremost the talk of the town in terms of possible major arrivals. The Spurs are likely to position themselves as buyers on the transfer market, as they are likely to want to bolster Victor Wembanyama’s supporting cast with major reinforcements. However, they will also have to make up for a number of impending departures.
Several members of their squad will have the opportunity to test the free agency waters this summer, and they shouldn’t miss out. Among them, Sandro Mamukelashvili, but above all Chris Paul, whose contract with San Antonio expires last year. It seems unlikely that the veteran point guard will continue his career there, but a potential landing spot seems to be opening up for him.
Chris Paul gives his honest thoughts on Victor Wembanyama
Recruited by the Spurs to bring all his experience to a roster sorely lacking in it, Chris Paul has been a mentor alongside Wembanyama. Eager for advice, the French interior found the ideal team-mate to give it to him. And it’s clear that he has made a strong impression on the latter, who declared in recent hours on the Pat McAfee Show:
Chris Paul: Wemby is different, that’s for sure. When you consider that he’s 7 foot 4 and you see him make the moves he does… And he loves the game. He loves playing basketball.
Endowed with immeasurable talent, Victor also boasts a mentality that defies all competition, making him a future great.
In his wake, his team also hopes to reach the top in the years to come. At least, that’s the prediction offered by CP3, who is clearly impressed by the various signings made by the Texan franchise in recent months:
Chris Paul: I think the Spurs are going to be a great team. They’ve got Harrison Barnes, who’s an excellent veteran, they’ve also recruited De’Aaron Fox… All they need to do now is stay healthy.
Indeed, the most important things right now are the speedy recoveries of Wemby, who was unavailable for several months due to a venous thrombosis, and Fox, who suffered a left hand injury and whose season also came to a premature end.
