Tyrese Haliburton is on another planet. The Pacers point guard continued his legendary playoff campaign by giving his team victory with another last-second shot. After the game, he delivered a slightly arrogant, but oh-so-true analysis of this tendency to come back from the depths.

It only took one game to prove wrong the pessimists who said the Finals wouldn’t be interesting. Sure, Oklahoma City and Indiana aren’t big markets or historic franchises, but these two teams are simply the best defense and offense in the league. This clash of styles was bound to be the source of a wonderful spectacle.

After a legendary Game 1, the advantage went to the offense, as the Pacers won at the last second on the Thunder’s floor. With Tyrese Haliburton well contained by Lu Dort, it was his lieutenants who initiated the decisive comeback in the final quarter. The point guard was content to take the ball on the final possession to do what he does best this year:

Tyrese Haliburton talks about his latest exploit

For the 4ᵉ time this playoff campaign, Tyrese Haliburton put in a shot to tie or win in the last 5 seconds of a game. Incidentally, since 1997, only LeBron James has more clutch shots than the point guard, and that record could soon fall if he continues at this rate. Speaking to ESPN after the game, he made an arrogant exit that shows he has no intention of changing.

The thing about us is that we’ve had to find ways of winning all season long. We’ve won so many games in bizarre ways, both during the regular season and in these playoffs. Why should this trend change just because it’s the Finals? It’s not going to change, we’re going to keep believing in our chances and this is the result.

Tyrese Haliburton is no longer surprised by his team’s character and ability to snatch victory even when the odds are stacked against them. The Pacers have had to fight all season long, and the point guard sees no reason why anything should change now. The Thunder have been warned that if they are to win the title, they will have to be irreproachable from the very first to the very last second.
