Now at Olympiakos, Evan Fournier had little time to get bored in this championship final against Panathinaikos. But despite a fine performance, the Frenchman’s ejection after a much-criticized gesture will be remembered above all.
A heated debate was expected, so it can’t be said that today’s derby scenario in the Greek championship final came as much of a surprise. It’s been a tense affair between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, so things took yet another twist on Friday. And yet, Evan Fournier can technically smile.
Evan Fournier gets annoyed with opposing fans
It was he who went home with another victory, giving his side a 2-1 lead in the series and the chance to end it all in the next game. But if the match caused a buzz on social networks, it’s because things got out of hand. It all started with Kendrick Nunn’s dangerous foul on Fournier.

Fournier was not far off the mark after a very aggressive foul by Nunn, perhaps annoyed by the course of the game. In any case, the players managed to calm things down, allowing Evan to continue his game quietly… until the fourth quarter, when he chose to send a strange message to the opposing fans.

An obscene gesture, of course, which earned Fournier an unsurprising ejection. The fans were very angry with him, so much so that there were outbursts in the aftermath, bringing the match to a halt for a few minutes. Olympiakos still came away with the win, but this series is far from over.
