Spurs have a lot to deal with this summer, with potential arrivals in the coming weeks. They will also have to deal with the possible extension of De’Aaron Fox, which could be a little long in coming.
Between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, the Spurs are definitely often mentioned during the month of June. It has to be said that the Texans are keen to make a big improvement on the wing, so the front office isn’t afraid to strike hard. Back in February, the franchise reached an agreement with the Kings to bring in De’Aaron Fox.
It’s proof that the franchise isn’t afraid to make trades to improve its squad if necessary. And given the results of the last campaign, even with Victor Wembanyama, it’s clear that the Spurs need improvement to aim for the playoffs, what’s more in the Western Conference.
A delayed extension for the Spurs?
But before thinking about new arrivals, San Antonio will also have to deal with Fox, who arrived last February. He will soon be a free agent, and this summer he will have the opportunity to extend his future with the Spurs. No one is really worried about this dossier, even if we’ll probably have to be patient to find out the outcome.
The reason? The fact that the Spurs will have to wait until August to offer Fox a longer, more lucrative deal. We imagine that’s what he wants, and given that San Antonio brought him in, the front office has agreed to offer him. The former Kings player has already indicated his agreement, but we’ll have to wait a few months for certainty.
@SpursBrosPod : “Important to note that if the Spurs plan to give him that 4-year deal, the earliest he can sign it is August 3rd If a deal is done before then, he’s only eligible for a 3-year, $140M deal Conclusion: probably no deal until August”
Indeed, it’s likely that Fox will want the biggest payout, while Spurs will want to keep him for the long term. On this basis, it’s possible that an agreement has already been reached between the two parties to wait until August to settle the matter. Nothing seems to be in a hurry at the moment at Spurs.
