DeMarcus Cousins is one of those talents who has been slowed down by injury and not had a career to match. At 34, he’s now playing in Puerto Rico, and after his terrible outbursts on the night, it’s doubtful he’ll stay there.

Sometimes, you just have to hang it up before it’s too late. That’s what some people are saying about Russell Westbrook, who has become a shadow of the MVP he once was. The point guard no longer has the athleticism of his younger days, and yet that’s what he relied on to dominate. While he’s still capable of some fine sequences, most of the time he shines through his dubious choices.

But at least Westbrook still has a chance in the NBA, where his leadership and energy are sought-after qualities in many franchises. The same cannot be said for DeMarcus Cousins, who is forced to travel the world to find contracts. At the age of 34, and even though he is a consultant for DraftKings, he is now playing in Puerto Rico.

DeMarcus Cousins breaks down in Puerto Rico

Had he not been affected by his serious injuries, had his progress not been brought to an abrupt halt, it’s a safe bet that DMC would still be in the league, earning a few million every year. But as fate would have it, he now finds himself in a hostile environment that puts his nerves to the test. And on Monday, he broke down completely. An obscene gesture, an attempted brawl in the stands… It’s all there.

Annoyed by a spectator who told him to stop crying on the court, DeMarcus Cousins lost all professionalism. First he unleashed an obscene gesture, flipping his fingers, before seeking a fight in the stands when drinks were spilled on him. Sometimes it’s better to cut your losses, before you find yourself in such a mess…
