Although Chet Holmgren is currently playing in the NBA Finals with Oklahoma City, the young center displayed some clumsiness during the Game 3 loss to the Pacers, earning him ridicule from Spurs fans in particular.
Not sure many observers expected this scenario before the series began. While the Thunder were considered the big favorites in these NBA Finals, it’s the Pacers who lead 2-1 heading into Game 4 tonight. Better still, Tyrese Haliburton and company have regained home-court advantage and could get a serious avantage with another home win. That would be a huge upset.
Suffice it to say, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his teammates need to roll up their sleeves and get back on track. They’ll need to do much better than they did in Game 3, which got off to a great start, but OKC made too many mistakes throughout the match, allowing their opponents to comfortably win (116-107).
Chet Holmgren criticized after his clumsy shooting in Game 3
A starting center since the start of the Finals, Chet Holmgren found himself in the eye of the storm following his performance. While on paper, it was more than honorable (20 points and 10 rebounds), the sophomore suffered from clumsiness with a poor 40% success rate (6/15) as well as a terrible zero three-pointers in six attempts.
However, his setbacks have delighted more than one person in San Antonio, as Spurs fans have not missed the opportunity to attack him on social media:
@SpursCulture : They really said Chet was better than Wemby, I’m crying
While waiting to see Cooper Flagg arrive in the NBA, it is Holmgren who is considered the main rival of Victor Wembanyama since they were in the battle for the Rookie of the Year in 2024. Suffice to say that he is the number 1 enemy of the San Antonio fanbase and while he went to the Finals before the Frenchman, he does not escape harsh criticism:
@DripMetaX: It’s Shai team not Chet, Wemby on a different of his own
@12Brick: Not sure why anyone ever made those comparisons
@bucknasty1889: Extremely disrespectful in hindsight.
