After a stint in Chicago where he began to rediscover his form, he could be on his way back to Los Angeles. But the question remains: would this trade truly make sense for all parties involved?
One proposed deal is already making the rounds between Los Angeles and Chicago: the Lakers would receive Lonzo Ball, while the Bulls would get Maxi Kleber and the 55th pick in the second round of the 2025 Draft. An intriguing suggestion for some fans, brought up by the LakersBetter account, with Ball’s return potentially boosting the point guard position. But naturally, many questions linger.
The premise is simple: Lonzo Ball has regained a decent level of play in Chicago, showing promise despite past knee issues. This progress might catch the Lakers’ attention, especially with Gabe Vincent possibly heading to another team, fueling speculation and giving more weight to this idea.
A point guard trade for the Lakers?
Some analysts question the wisdom of such a move. Bringing Ball back also means accepting a degree of risk tied to his injury history. Additionally, the asking price could seem steep to some, especially for a player who still appears injury-prone. Playing a full 82-game season seems virtually impossible for him.
On the Bulls’ side, the idea of acquiring Maxi Kleber and a draft pick could seem somewhat appealing. It might not be a dream scenario, but considering Ball was close to retirement just a few months ago, the organization might want to cash in while they can.
For Lonzo Ball, a return to Los Angeles would be a second chance to prove he can be a key piece on a contending team. After his setbacks, he could finally thrive and contribute meaningfully to a team hungry for success — especially alongside Luka Doncic. His playmaking would be a welcome addition, particularly with a new center potentially joining the roster.
