Even though he hadn’t yet celebrated his 40th birthday, LeBron James was a veteran of Team USA at the Paris Olympics. A status he would have fully justified, according to Tyrese Haliburton.

Despite a few (big) scares, they lived up to their billing as defending Olympic champions. Nevertheless, the USA had to pull out all the stops to leave the Paris Olympic Games with a gold medal. With a roster packed with NBA superstars, they were able to rely on their most experienced players when the going got tough.

In addition to Stephen Curry, who was heroic in the decisive matches against Serbia and France, Kevin Durant and LeBron James were also present throughout the tournament. All the while being gently teased by their team-mates for their age. Present alongside them, Tyrese Haliburton reveals in Cold As Balls:

Tyrese Haliburton: KD and LeBron, we called them uncs!

LeBron’s old school behavior with Team USA

As some of the oldest players on the American roster last summer, Durant and James never looked outdated on the floor. Quite the contrary, in fact. On the other hand, they did stand out from their younger compatriots for certain attitudes that betrayed them away from the cameras. Particularly LeBron, whose reflexes on the sidelines of a training session seem to have caught Haliburton’s attention:

Tyrese Haliburton: Bron used to do old people stuff all the time! Like, he was sitting in the training room, he had his iPad resting on his chest and he was watching “Les Soprano” without headphones. His volume was all the way up!

Clearly anything but concerned about the embarrassment, the King couldn’t have provided a more paradoxical scene in the eyes of the Pacers point guard:

Tyrese Haliburton: I came into the room and noticed that nobody dared say anything to him. So I tapped him on the shoulder and said, “Dude, you’re literally the face of Beats. How come you don’t have headphones?!”

LBJ indeed has a sponsorship contract with the famous headphone brand, and also owned shares in it before it was sold. This made his behavior even more lunar in his partner’s eyes. As if that weren’t enough, he followed up their discussion with an admission that would also make him a true “OG”:

Tyrese Haliburton: I also asked him, “How many times have you watched this series?” He replied, “Ah, this must be the fourth.” I was like, “Then why are you still laughing so hard?”
