When Michael Jordan arrived in the NBA, his opponents quickly realized that he was an extraordinary talent, a player capable of taking his team to the top every season. So, to prevent him from doing so for as long as possible, the Pistons had developed a tribal but effective tactic: get in his face and hurt him while staying as within the rules as possible.

Without comparing their levels, this is more or less what Caitlin Clark is experiencing in the women’s league. Elevated to superstar status before even stepping foot in the league, the Fever’s leader can irritate with her flamboyant play and shots from another planet. In Tuesday’s match against Connecticut, her dribbling earned her a nice bump on the head.

Big controversy surrounding Caitlin Clark

After taking a finger to the eye and being sent to the floor by Marina Mabrey, Caitlin Clark was given a technical foul which may seem unfair. Naturally, she took her revenge on the court with a shot of her own and a few sweet words for her opponents. After the match, she preferred to leave it to her coach Stephanie White:

No one had any explanation for the technical foul Caitlin received. Obviously, things get out of hand when referees allow these gestures and don’t monitor matches. It’s been happening since the start of the season. You’ve got competitive girls who are the best in the world at this sport, and when you allow that level of physicality, they’re going to defend themselves and their teammates.

I spoke to the referees in the first quarter because I knew things were going to get out of hand. They have to control the game and be better! When I say control, it starts with whistling obvious fouls on the pitch and doing it consistently. They can’t wait for one player to try and knock another down before whistling.
