San Antonio is among the favorites to land Kevin Durant, given the superstar would leave Phoenix this offseason. But the Texans may have lost interest in signing the two-time champion, according to a league analyst.

While NBA franchises aren’t exactly lining up for Kevin Durant, he reportedly has some preferences regarding his next destination. The forward is reportedly keen to join Houston, Miami, or San Antonio, with the latter being his first choice, as he could play there alongside a certain Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs have been among the favorites to land the Suns superstar for weeks. But as the deal drags on and the draft approaches, negotiations with Phoenix are barely progressing, with the Suns proving too greedy. So much so that they may have finally grown tired of it, having cut the talks short, according to Brett Siegel, who spoke to ClutchPoints:

Are the Spurs less and less keen to acquire Kevin Durant?

Internally, the Spurs have discussed what the aftermath of a Durant trade would do to their future, sources said. While there is a level of interest that exists, this organization will not sacrifice a big chunk of what they have built through the years for the aging star. The Spurs have flexibility and they know it. There is no need to rush a decision on their future, which is why there has been a sense of hesitance regarding a potential pursuit of Durant.

But the timing of the organization’s silence is worth noting given the lack of enthusiasm Phoenix has shown in offers coming their way from rival teams. Is this simply nothing from the Spurs as they inch closer to what will be a big draft for them, or is there more to the story with San Antonio operating behind the scenes without any inclusion from the media and fans?

This could certainly be a ploy for the Spurs to lessen Durant’s trade value given the urgency Phoenix faces to make a move before the draft and knowing that the superstar forward wants to play with Wembanyama and Fox.

There’s no way San Antonio is going to bet everything on a superstar approaching forty, which is completely understandable given that the franchise’s future is built around Wemby. Especially since KD isn’t the only big name the Texans are eyeing:

Two names stand out as superstar targets for the Spurs outside of Kevin Durant: Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jaylen Brown. If San Antonio holds off on pursuing Durant, these will be the two stars to keep an eye on for San Antonio moving forward.
