On paper, LaMelo Ball is one of the best point guards in the NBA, a young talent destined for the top. But in reality, he struggles to be available and to make the Hornets a team that counts in the Eastern Conference. An image that is now turning against him.
LaMelo Ball is perhaps the coolest player in the NBA, along with Anthony Edwards. Famous and media-savvy since he was a teenager, he has managed to avoid the pitfalls that come with joining the league and establish himself as a player who counts. An All-Star, capable of averaging 25 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds, the point guard should logically be aiming for the top.
The problem is that his style of play and his nonchalance don’t necessarily match up with the demands of the top level. Yes, Melo drops cards regularly, but they are rarely accompanied by victory. His career record is 98 wins to 133 losses, and unlike Tyrese Haliburton, who was selected the same year, he has never tasted the playoffs.
LaMelo Ball and the Hornets snubbed before the draft
LaMelo may be a selfless, ball-sharing point guard, but why would a star come alongside him if he can’t carry his team to the title race? This reputation as a loser is clearly starting to stick to him, as evidenced by a prospect’s big decision just a few days before the draft.
One draft lottery prospect reportedly refused to work out with the Hornets because he didn’t want to play with LaMelo Ball, per @mikelacett pic.twitter.com/g38BNB1QiN

Charlotte isn’t the most glamorous city in the USA, so the Hornets have to rely mainly on the draft to strengthen themselves and develop their project. Unfortunately, LaMelo Ball, the team’s leader, would be more of an obstacle to recruitment than an asset. In any case, this announcement has prompted a number of Internet users to react, who can understand the mystery player’s decision.
@NetsGuy15 : The kid plays like he’s at a 24 hour fitness. I get it
@Oldcrow07 : what Lamelo do? 😂
@RaptorsShaq : This could just be a PG who wants to start right away tbh
@kawhi_ring : I mean Lamelo barely plays so
