In an offseason where rumors are already numerous and tantalizing, there’s no shortage of XXL trade ideas either. One American journalist, for example, went so far as to imagine a trade involving the Lakers, Warriors… and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

As impatient as ever, they’ll have to wait a while for the show to begin. Many NBA fans are clamoring for a more active transfer market, even though the Finals have yet to deliver their verdict. In particular, the Kevin Durant deal could satisfy their pre-draft desires, while that of Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to fuel the wildest fantasies.

The astounding 4-team, 8-player trade, including Giannis

A few weeks ago, Shams Charania reported on Giannis’ alleged doubts about his future with the Bucks, sending the league into meltdown. Since then, various insiders have instead suggested that the Greek should continue his journey in Milwaukee. Despite this, ESPN’s Zach Kram got creative and put together a potential trade that would shake up the NBA landscape in a big way:

  • Golden State Warriors receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
  • Los Angeles Lakers receive: Draymond Green, Daniel Gafford
  • Dallas Mavericks receive: Gabe Vincent, first-round pick 2031 (via LAL), 41ème pick 2025 (via GSW)
  • Milwaukee Bucks receive: Austin Reaves, Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga (via sign-and-trade), Trayce Jackson-Davis, Maxi Kleber, first-round pick 2029 et 2031 (via GSW), first-round pick swap 2030 (avec LAL)

Given the number of teams and the calibre of players involved, it seems clear that this hypothetical trade is highly unlikely to happen. Nevertheless, it would meet the needs of all the franchises involved, and therefore seems relatively plausible. In his defense, Kram put forward a number of arguments that might give the front offices in question pause for thought:

Zach Kram: The Warriors would have to sacrifice roster depth to build a star-studded Big Three with Curry, Antetokounmpo and Butler. The Lakers would balance their roster by converting Reaves to Green – who has been linked to the Lakers in rumors in the past – and Gafford, improving their defense and getting a mobile pivot who has already proven he fits in perfectly alongside Luka Doncic.

The Mavericks, for their part, would part with a player at a position where their rotation already appears solid (pivot) in order to obtain a future first-round pick and a point guard capable of filling Kyrie Irving’s absence. Finally, the Bucks would get an assortment of promising young players and future picks in exchange for their superstar.
