A sense of silence is never meaningless in the NBA. As the Draft approaches, some franchises are getting busy, others are just listening. In San Antonio, they’re keeping their cards close to the chest. Yet phone calls keep coming in about one particular asset: the No. 2 pick in the 2025 Draft. A valuable ticket the Spurs fully intend to use… unless a spectacular offer changes their mind.
Among the players the Texans like, Dylan Harper stands out as the clear favorite. The point guard is highly regarded internally for his court vision, size, and potential to complement Victor Wembanyama. His arrival appears to be firmly in the Spurs’ plans. But Harper’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed elsewhere — starting with the Wizards, who are quietly hoping to convince San Antonio to give up their precious pick.. Mais le talent d’Harper ne laisse pas les autres insensibles, à commencer par les Wizards, qui espèrent secrètement convaincre San Antonio de lâcher leur précieux pick.
@SpursReporter : “My colleague Brandon Robinson in NY tells us that the Washington Wizards, who hold the No. 6 pick in this year’s draft, have also reached out to Spurs about moving up to No. 2. The Spurs continue to lean towards keeping the pick and selecting Rutgers freshman Dylan Harper and will not move the pick unless it is a clear overpay according to a plugged in NBA executive.”
Will the Spurs give in before Draft night?
Despite their rough season, the Wizards only landed the sixth pick in the lottery, complicating their plans. Harper will no longer be available that low, hence their desperate attempt to move up and support Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr. Note that both French players are likely untouchable at this point.
For San Antonio, the priority remains building wisely around Wembanyama. Trading the pick would be a risky move — unless it involves a star or young All-Star in return. So far, nothing suggests Washington or any other team has made such an offer. Even the Sixers reportedly reached out about the No. 2 pick, but talks haven’t progressed.
This situation also highlights the growing pressure surrounding the 2025 Draft. Several struggling teams are desperately trying to move up to avoid another year of mediocrity without a true foundation. But the Spurs, known for their calm and patience, seem unlikely to yield to the frenzy. By holding on to their No. 2 pick, they confirm their intention to build a coherent team around Wembanyama — without unnecessary compromises.
This also confirms that the Spurs are in a position of strength ahead of the Draft. Balancing strategic patience with clear interest in Harper, the Texas franchise likely already knows what it’s doing. Unless there’s a last-minute twist, that pick isn’t going anywhere. The plan is clear: bet on the future — without rushing.
