Having returned to Europe a few months ago, Evan Fournier has also rediscovered the joy of playing in Greece, playing for Olympiakos. He and his teammates are getting along very well, judging by this viral joke on his social media.
The least we can say is that his gamble paid off. Blacklisted in the NBA, where almost no one wanted him after a year and a half spent cleaning the bench for the Knicks and then the Pistons, Evan Fournier had decided to return to Europe. Perhaps the best decision of his career, as he shone in the colors of Olympiakos.
Immediately starting for the legendary Greek club, the French international wasted no time reminding everyone that he remains one of the best European guards of the moment. Whether in the domestic league or the Euroleague, nothing and no one seemed able to stop “More Champagne,” especially when he played in symbiosis with Sasha Vezenkov. A true offensive nightmare.
Evan Fournier mocks Olympiakos teammate
More generally, Fournier seems to have rediscovered the joy of playing on the Old Continent. Especially since he’s enjoyed a fair amount of team success, becoming Greek champion this season while also reaching the Euroleague Final Four. The icing on the cake is that he gets along very well with his teammates, including Kostas Papanikolaou, whom he mocked while the Euroleague paid tribute to him on its X account:
He tried the same dunk in practice this year and he almost broke his back🤣🤣🤣😘 https://t.co/RIY3ZecPzX

As a reminder, this superb burst of form from the winger dates back to the 2011-12 season. Papanikolaou was still 21 years old at the time… Suffice it to say that today, at 34, he is far from being able to always count on the same athletic qualities.
Now a backup at Piraeus, the man who spent two years in the NBA between 2014 and 2016 remains a valuable member of the roster, if only for his experience alone. A five-time Greek champion, Spanish champion, and two-time Euroleague winner, Papanikolaou boasts an impressive trophy cabinet. The perfect veteran to come off the bench on a team aiming for titles.
