After spending two weeks in a temple in China, Victor Wembanyama is back in the U.S., in a much less tranquil environment. Present in New York for a major conference, he indulged himself by spending a small ticket.
Since the start of his career, Victor Wembanyama has distinguished himself with a maturity that’s pretty crazy for his young age. He proved it again this summer. While basketball players usually try to progress by running ball-in-hand drills, he decided to step out of his comfort zone and make progress as a person.
Rather than staying in his San Antonio environment, the Spurs prodigy flew to China, where he spent two weeks immersed in a temple with monks. The idea was simple: to discover a new mentality, and above all a new way of moving and controlling his body. If he got it right, the results are likely to be spectacular on the field.

But being an NBA superstar also means having commercial obligations. So, after this hopefully beneficial retirement, Wemby had to make the trip to New York for a big conference organized by one of his sponsors. He had the opportunity to meet superstars like Kevin Hart, do an interview with LeBron James and buy a collector’s item for a good ticket.

Victor Wembanyama is a collector who loves science fiction and the Star Wars universe, so it’s hardly surprising to see him looking for cards related to the saga. On the other hand, the estimates may make him a billionaire before he turns 30, but he refused to pay the seller’s $3,000 asking price. His popularity enabled him to scrape $500 off the deal.
What’s reassuring in this sequence is that the Spurs pivot still has his feet firmly on the ground. At 21, with the world at his feet, he could have gone crazy, turned away from his youthful passions and spent lavishly. The Wembanyama clan is well aware of the value of money, proof of great intelligence and maturity.
