Another rumor in an already turbulent summer for Los Angeles. Still looking for a wing who can help right away, the Lakers are now eyeing a familiar face in the league: Andrew Wiggins.

The situation is indeed complicated. After failing to land Kevin Durant, the Heat are in search of reinforcements. According to Anthony Irwin, the Lakers have reached out to the Florida franchise to explore a potential deal involving Wiggins. Coming off several disappointing seasons, Wiggins could benefit from a fresh start in a new conference. For the Lakers, the goal is clear: to bolster their wing defense and ease the burden on Luka Doncic.

“Teams are wondering what the Miami Heat will do after missing out on Kevin Durant. Miami continues to shop Andrew Wiggins in trade talks and would be willing to include the 20th pick in the Draft to get a better player to pair with Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo,” reported Brett Siegel on the situation.

Another star for the Lakers?

According to Anthony Irwin, the Lakers are showing interest and have contacted the Heat to gauge the asking price for Wiggins. Reaching a deal won’t be easy, but it remains a possibility in the coming weeks:

“The Lakers have reached out to Miami to inquire about what they want in exchange for Andrew Wiggins,” Irwin reported.

Wiggins’ availability is no longer a secret, and the Lakers could take advantage of the opportunity. Known for his defensive potential, Wiggins could be a good fit on a roster that severely lacked consistency last season. The question now is whether the two teams can agree on trade compensation, especially as Miami is actively trying to leverage its draft pick in a deal.

For Los Angeles, acquiring Wiggins would also be a move to please Doncic, who has been deeply involved in team decisions since his arrival. The Slovenian star needs defensive support on the wing to make up for some of his shortcomings, and if Wiggins returns to form, he could fill that role. It’s a risky bet—but not an unreasonable one—in a market where options at that position are scarce.

If not, the Lakers will have to pivot quickly to other targets. They’re still aiming for an aggressive offseason, with several names floating around. Rob Pelinka is also reportedly still on the hunt for a center.
