With 5 picks in the first round of the draft, the Nets could hardly go wrong… However, in the opinion of all the specialists, GM Sean Marks did a pretty terrifying job on Wednesday. The whole league laughed at him and his franchise.

Thanks to their poor results and certain trades, notably the one that sent Mikal Bridges to the Knicks, Brooklyn had five picks in the first round of the draft. So, before Adam Silver kicked off this big night by announcing the arrival of Cooper Flagg at the Mavericks, all the specialists thought that the Nets would activate themselves on the market.

With so much capital at their disposal, they could have made a nice offer to pick up a talent already confirmed in the league, or moved up a few places to select a prospect with great potential. But Sean Marks decided to take the microcosm by storm, using each of his choices to try and strengthen his squad. A mission unanimously considered a failure.

Nets mocked league-wide after draft

Firstly, because Brooklyn selected no fewer than 4 point guards on this night alone, while the squad already included D’Angelo Russell. Secondly, most of the new Nets don’t have much potential, like Egor Demin, an excellent passer but limited in all other areas of the game. According to Brian Windhorst, the Nets are the joke of the moment in the league offices.

“I hear things about the selections made by the Nets. People in the league don’t care about the Nets. I have executives, agents and players laughing, because Brooklyn would sometimes play three G League guys at the same time for a chance to select high in this draft. But those G League players might be better than the ones they selected tonight.”

In the offices of the various franchises, nobody expected such a night from the Nets. The team became the first to select 5 players in the first round, and none of them seemed to satisfy observers. During the evening, Brian Windhorst received numerous messages mocking Sean Marks and his decision, which speaks volumes about the lack of seriousness accorded to Brooklyn. On the fans’ side, it’s no better:

@freewave3 : “The Nets deserve to be relegated below the NBA”

@MendNets : “I waited 15 years to see the Nets make a top-10 draft selection, and they took this fu***** Egor Demin…”

@DraftDummies : “My takeaway is that the Nets are going to suck for a long time.”
