Faced with an obvious problem in the racket, we know that the Lakers will take action this summer to fix it. But to get a really good player, a trade is undoubtedly the best option, and there’s just one proposal on the table.
The Lakers will have at least one new pivot by October, potentially two if Jaxson Hayes leaves the franchise in the next few weeks, as he is a free agent for this summer. Rob Pelinka has his work cut out for him if he doesn’t want to disappoint his managers or the fans, but it’s hard to know who the new recruit will be on the Los Angeles side.
There are quite a few options on the market, whether we’re talking free agency or a straightforward trade. As it happens, the Angelinos have some assets to trade with a first-round pick or Dalton Knecht, already traded in February for Mark Williams before the trade was cancelled. The fullback should probably pack his bags for this summer, and for good this time.
What trade for the Lakers?
There are plenty of targets on the market, but should we go for an experienced player, or someone Doncic’s age, so as to associate the two men for a very long time? Some people think it’s an excellent idea, which is why Deandre Ayton’s name is catching on with a few people on Twitter.
One internet user even imagined a trade allowing the Lakers to get the former number 1 draft pick. He’s gone downhill over the years, but he’s still an effective post 5 capable of great things on the floor. For the record, Doncic and Ayton come from the same 2018 draft.
- Lakers receive : Deandre Ayton
- Blazers receive: Gabe Vincent, Dalton Knecht, first round of 2029, second round of 2030
The next question? Naturally, “who says no?” to such a trade. A good fit for the Lakers, but a price that upsets some. We’re talking about a player with a significant salary who has failed to confirm his No. 1 status. Note that the deal is not certain to work with the salary cap, so some adjustments will be necessary. Whatever happens, the Lakers absolutely must find a solution.
