The subject of trade rumors for months now, Kevin Durant is expected to leave the Suns sometime this summer. At least, that’s the trend according to Brian Windhorst, who confirms that the outcome seems inevitable.
Kevin Durant’s name has been mentioned in trade rumors for some time now. He had an excellent season with the Suns, always able to take the heat, but his team never succeeded collectively, leading to a total absence from the postseason. Inevitably, this will leave its mark on the organization.
With a new coach and a new GM behind the scenes, the changes have already begun at the Suns, and this is undoubtedly just the beginning. Devin Booker may be untouchable, but Bradley Beal is not, after a nightmare season in which he has never found his place since being traded. Even Kevin Durant is on his way out.
Which franchise for Kevin Durant in autumn?
As he turns 37 in September, Durant continues to shine, but his salary may pose a problem for his team. His departure is therefore the best solution for Phoenix, although the new GM is a big fan of KD and will do his utmost to keep him, according to him. But ESPN’s Brian Windhorst disagrees.
For several weeks now, Windhorst has been saying something similar: Durant is leaving the Suns. We still don’t know in which trade and for which destination, but it’s a done deal for the insider. He may have to wait for Giannis Antetokounmpo’s decision to find out more, however. Here’s what Windhorst explained on Wednesday.
Brian Windhorst : “I’m 98% sure that Kevin Durant won’t be a Suns player next season. How is that going to happen? I’m 1% sure. There will be quite a few teams interested, some will depend on whether to sign him for just one year, or whether to give him an extension, which I suspect he’ll want.”
And knowing that KD is just a few years away from retirement, discussions about his next contract may be difficult. The player will want a substantial salary for a few years, but not everyone will want to agree to that. But for the time being, the main thing to remember is that his departure is well underway.
