Beaten by the Thunder, the Wolves have some decisions to make in the coming months. The franchise could recruit some heavyweights to respond, including Kevin Durant. The deal was mentioned back in February.

Another Western Conference Final for the Wolves, but another defeat on the way. Anthony Edwards’ team-mates are struggling to turn the corner, and worse still, they’re clearly behind the Thunder and other organizations. A rethink is expected this summer, especially as there may be some departures.

With Naz Reid in particular on the market, Minnesota will have to make choices to maintain a competitive roster. Julius Randle could be part of a trade, while some are pushing for the departure of Rudy Gobert, who is far from being in form in this conference final. Whatever happens, changes are expected in Minnesota.

An extra star for the Wolves?

If Edwards is untouchable, it’s doubtful that the other players are. For the fans, it’s time to renew part of the squad in order to play for the title next season, and if possible with a better chance. The front office could therefore launch an offensive on Kevin Durant, so much so that interest had already been confirmed in February, at the deadline.

The deal didn’t go through, but Minnesota wanted Durant to add some spice to their roster. The good news is that the Suns star is available again today, and some fans are hoping the Wolves can pull off a deal. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has more to say on the subject.

Brian Windhorst : “It became clear to me in talking to the parties involved just how serious the Wolves were about trying to trade for Kevin Durant at the trade deadline. At the time, the Wolves were not playing their best basketball. They subsequently finished the season, I think, 18-5 and got to the Western Conference Finals. So I don’t want to make it implied that their mindset is still where it was in February… They made some sort of progress. Getting it done was impossible. They were two second apron teams. But after these guys opt out, they won’t be a second apron team. I’m not arguing that Durant is going to end up in Minnesota… If you look at Tim Connelly, he made the big [Rudy] Gobert trade. He made the big trade of KAT for Julius Randle and DiVincenzo.”

Suffice to say, the Wolves GM isn’t afraid to make trades to give the Wolves the best chances. So we can expect a lot of trouble this summer, and with contracts down, a possible new offensive on KD.
