Having qualified for the Western Conference semi-finals a few days ago, Rudy Gobert was waiting to find out who his opponent would be. Now he has, as he’ll be facing the Warriors in a series for which he’s been preparing himself in no uncertain terms.
In addition to their qualification against the Lakers, they could also congratulate themselves on the speed with which they achieved it. The Timberwolves needed just five games to win the series, and for this they can thank Rudy Gobert. Thanks to Gobert’s recital in Game 5, they were able to rest easy over the last few days, while their future opponents battled to join them in the next round.
Rudy Gobert’s preparation sparks debate on the web
Led in a Game 7 by Houston, the Warriors finally got rid of them (103-89) and snatched their ticket to the Western Conference semi-finals. However, they only have one day to recover before their showdown with the Wolves, who have already started preparing for it. Including Gobert, filmed in the middle of a training session on Sunday by Zone Coverage’s Andrew Dikowitz:

Andrew Dukowitz: Rudy Gobert working on his ball handling and finishing. (He didn’t drop a single pass in the 3 minutes I filmed).
Regularly served in this pocket of space after a pick-and-roll, the French pivot sometimes tends not to make the right choices there, or even loses the ball. Some fans were therefore delighted to see him working on this precise configuration:
@JustJayes_89: So great to see an athlete actively working on his craft to improve, even while being considered a veteran in this league and making a guaranteed multi-million dollar salary. Unreal.
Other Internet users, however, are far less enthusiastic. They criticize Gobzilla for still not having mastered this type of action at nearly 33 years of age:
@nickd_tweets: I love Rudy but he’s a professional athlete, it’s sad we have to rejoice when he simply catches every pass thrown his way lol
The french big man, however, is unlikely to heed these comments, and will no doubt remain focused on his mission in the run-up to Game 1, scheduled for this Tuesday.
