Already under intense scrutiny from observers, the Warriors will have some decisions to make over the summer. We’re thinking of Jonathan Kuminga, and perhaps we’ll see a reversal of fortune. It remains to be seen what the player thinks.

Like many other franchises, the Warriors will have some important decisions to make in the coming months. They may have done the hardest thing by recruiting Jimmy Butler, but Draymond Green has still shown some serious shortcomings in terms of behavior. More and more fans are not taking a dim view of his departure.

But the most important issue will undoubtedly be Jonathan Kuminga. The latter has a certain potential, but has not always given satisfaction, so much so that Steve Kerr has sometimes benched him, as he did at the start of the playoffs. Knowing that he will be a restricted free agent over the summer, this could lead to his departure from Golden State.

An inevitable departure for the Warriors?

We imagine Kuminga wants to play somewhere where he’s appreciated and where he can win. Can the Warriors commit to giving him minutes next season? You’ll have to ask Kerr, who has made some questionable decisions. But GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. wants to retain the interior for 2026, and therefore intends to pay him.

Mike Dunleavy Jr : “We value JK. I think he had a resilient season. … As far as bringing him back next season, I think it’s something we’re very interested in doing because, when I look at the things JK does well, in terms of getting to the rim, finishing, getting fouled, these are things we greatly need. We know he can bring those to the table. It’s not hypothetical.”

“For that reason, we’ll try to bring him back, but you’ve got to have those conversations. You’ve got to figure it out. It’s a two-way street in terms of creating — getting a new contract and all of that. So, we’ll see where it goes.”

For the time being, Kuminga has not yet committed to the Dubs, who may want to look elsewhere for a better contract and a bigger role. Kerr’s decisions may have a bearing on all this, although Golden State may retain him in any case. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in free agency, but Kuminga shouldn’t lack interest.
